For more than 25 years, Mark has served in the United States and around the world; developing and implementing law enforcement and security programs for the U.S. Government, Embassies, colleges and schools, and the public and private sector.
He's a recognized leader in the fields of criminal justice, international security and higher education public safety.
As Deputy Chief of Law Enforcement & Homeland Security for the California Governor's Office of Emergency Services, Mark oversaw statewide crisis planning and response, and as Deputy Chief Sergeant-at-Arms of the California State Assembly he protected the state capitol, our elected leaders and safeguarded their staff and offices across the state.
As a Special Agent with the U.S. Department of State's Diplomatic Security Service Mark protected Americans overseas and designed programs that kept our Embassies safe from terrorist attack.
Mark is an Assistant Professor in the University of Virginia's (UVA) Master of Public Safety Program where he advises senior law enforcement and public safety leaders on emerging trends in crisis response & emergency management and coaches his students on on creating and maintaining community dialogue. In his dual role as Director of the National Criminal Justice Command College, a collaborative partnership between UVA and the Virginia State Police, Mark also works with a select group of public safety leaders from across the nation to expand their knowledge, enhance leadership skills, and bring strategic thinking and innovation back to their agencies.
